Transfer sites to another account
Hand one site or many to another WP Foreman account, with their backups and history. Nothing moves until the other owner accepts.
Updated Oct 12, 2026
Use a transfer when a site belongs in someone else’s WP Foreman account: a client taking over their own site, a partner agency, or a second account you run. The site keeps its backups and history, and the WP Foreman plugin on the site keeps working. Nothing needs reconnecting.
Send sites
- Go to Settings › Site transfers. From a single site, you can also use Site settings › Transfer to another account.
- Tick the sites to send. Use the filter and Pick all to send a whole client’s sites at once.
- Enter the other account owner’s WP Foreman email address.
- If you use two-step sign-in, enter the code from your authenticator app.
- Click Send.
The other owner gets an email, and you get one too. They have 7 days to accept. Until then the sites stay in your account and work as normal, and you can Cancel the transfer from the same page.
Accept or decline
Sign in as the address the transfer was sent to and open Settings › Site transfers (the email links straight there). Click Accept to move the sites into your account, or Decline to leave them where they are. The sender is told either way.
Accepted sites land in your own account and show up on your Sites page straight away. File them under your clients from each site’s settings.
What moves and what stays
- Goes with the sites: backups (they count toward the new owner’s storage from then on), uptime, speed and visual check history, the site log, notes, renewals and past reports.
- Stays with the sender: clients, the analytics connection, rules, Foreman chats and support tickets. Rules that named the sites stop including them.
- The sender’s team loses access as soon as the transfer is accepted. Backup .zip downloads they made stop working.
Keeping it safe
- Only the account owner can send sites. Team members can’t.
- Nothing moves until the receiving owner accepts, signed in as the exact address it was sent to. Nobody can push sites into an account, or pull them out of one.
- The sending owner gets an email whenever a transfer starts. If you didn’t start one, cancel it from Settings › Site transfers and turn on two-step sign-in.
- Each transfer is recorded in the site log on both sides.
When a transfer can’t be sent
- No account with that email: they need to sign up first (it’s free), then send it again.
- Not enough room: the receiving account’s plan needs room for every site in the transfer.
- Backups in your own storage: move them to WP Foreman storage first from the site’s Backups page (Storage options), so they can go with the site. See Storage options.
- Something’s running: wait for any backup, restore or update on the site to finish.
- Already waiting: a site can only be in one open transfer at a time.
